On Toxic Ground

"On Toxic Ground” is the title of a new project based in Grindsted and rooted in the history of Grindstedværket. For some, it is a story of jobs and progress. For others, it is a story of pollution and restrictions on everyday life.

At Mark, we want to use the museum as a space where different experiences and perspectives can come together. A place where there is room to share, listen and learn from one another. A research into the fundamental conditions for democracy.

Over the coming years, we will invite local residents to take part. We need you to share your perspectives on the history of the area. Together, we will explore ways of building local pride and a stronger sense of community for the future.

The Ground Is Toxic is one of eight projects funded through the VELUX FOUNDATIONS initiative Democratic Sustainability.

Our project partners are Design School Kolding, DTU Sustain, Aarhus University – Museology, Destination Trekantområdet and Billund Municipality (Traffic and Nature).

Can pollution from the past strengthen communities of the future?

As part of the launch of each project under the Democratic Sustainability initiative, an introductory video has been produced about the project.

In the video Can pollution from the past strengthen communities of the future?, Mai Kofoed Lauritsen, Project Manager at Mark, Anna Louise Siggaard, Curator at Mark, and Sune Klok Gudiksen, Associate Professor at Design School Kolding, introduce the project and its ambitions.
